The Roman Empire was based on heredity, property, wealth, Roman citizenship, and freedom. The classes include Senators, Patricians, Equestirians, Plebeians, Slaves, Freedmen and Non-Roman citizens, which were all ruled by the Emperor. Clothing helped estunguish the classes, for example the Emperor wore a toga, filled entirely with the color purple. The Emperor dined in the best villas, had the finest foods, furnichure, clothes, as well as many other high class indulgences. Though that came in a high price, for it required Senatorial approval. Which at times also limited the Emperor power.
